News Release- Re: Madawaska RoadMonday March 27, 2017
From the Office of the Mayor
Following a Special Meeting of Council, held on March 23, 2017, I would like to issue the following statement to the Ratepayers of Hastings Highlands:
The Madawaska Road Rehabilitation Project was a large infrastructure project for the Municipality. Ultimately the project was completed on time and we are pleased with the results. As with any construction project, the circumstances surrounding the building and executing the contract can be complicated and sometimes litigation can arise.
Although Council feels we did nothing wrong, and the settlement contains no admission of liability, after consulting with our municipal lawyers we felt that it was in the best interests of the taxpayers to avoid a lengthy and expensive trial by settling this outstanding claim. As negotiations of the settlement were conducted in Closed Council Session, on advice of our lawyers we cannot comment further on the process.
Mayor Vivian Bloom
Municipality of Hastings Highlands
