Hastings Highlands Appoints Fire Chief
Maynooth, ON – The Municipality of Hastings Highlands is pleased to announce that as part of the municipality’s succession planning, Council has appointed Glen Ackerman as the next Fire Chief for the municipality.
Glen is not new to the municipality; he has been employed with Hastings Highlands since November of 2021 as the Deputy Fire Chief. Glen has over 25 years of fire service experience and has over 12 years of experience working as part of the management team for an ISO 9002 company. Glen holds numerous National Fire Protection Association accreditations and will be a valuable team member for Hastings Highlands.
“Council is excited to welcome Glen to his new role as Fire Chief and we are confident that Glen’s combined years of experience in the fire services along with his background working as part of the management team for an ISO 9002 company will prove to be valuable for our team,” said Mayor Tracy Hagar.
Glen will begin his position as Fire Chief on April 1, 2022. He will be responsible for the administration and coordination of all Fire Department activities through the supervision of subordinate officers, and firefighters. The Fire Chief plans, organizes and directs departmental operations with respect to equipment, apparatus, inspections, and personnel. Glen is replacing Interim Fire Chief Brandon Northrup who has been serving in the role on a temporary basis for the municipality since October of 2021.
Plans are underway to recruit for the municipality’s Deputy Fire Chief position as a result of Glen being appointed to the position of Fire Chief.
As the third largest growing Municipality in the County behind the City of Belleville and the City of Quinte West, Hastings Highlands is preparing for the future. As a recent recipient of the Canadian Association of Municipal Administrators Award for succession planning, the Municipality continues to make investments today to ensure success for the future.
