PUBLIC NOTICE – TOTAL FIRE BAN LIFTED
NIGHT BURNING PERMITTED

 

Effective 9:00 a.m. August 29, 2025, the Municipality of Hastings Highlands will lift the fire ban due to significant rainfalls and improvement in air quality. 

If dry conditions become a concern in the future, another Fire Ban may be required. Open air burning, including small campfires, is now permitted, but residents are reminded to be extra cautious as surrounding grasses and dry branches can easily ignite.

The Municipality of Hastings Highlands reminds residents that all burning regulations still apply. The burning regulations are as follows:

·       The fire is ignited at 7:00 p.m. or later and is extinguished at 7:00 a.m. or earlier during the period from April 1st to October 31st;

·       Small campfires no larger then 2 feet by 2 feet for cooking and warmth are permitted.

·       The fire is at least 5 meters from any combustible materials.

·       A responsible person capable of extinguishing the fire has adequate tools, water and human resources to contain the fire; and

At this time, The Municipality reminds residents that due to conditions the burning of large brush fires, yard waste is prohibited until further notice.

Current Information

 

BARAGARS ROAD - EMERGENCY ROAD CLOSURE UPDATE SEPT 24 2025

 

PLEASE BE ADVISED: Baragars Road remains closed at Papineau Creek while the Municipality works to acquire materials to complete a culvert replacement. No through vehicle traffic is permitted, and no detours are available.

 

The closure will remain in effect until the culvert replacement is finished, with Crews working to fully reopen the road by Wed, Oct 8, 2025.

 

Tree removal is scheduled to begin on Fri, Sept 26, 2025, and the culvert replacement is tentatively scheduled to start on Wed, Oct 1, 2025, provided that all necessary materials are received on time.

 

A TOTAL FIRE BAN remains in effect along Baragars Road.

 

Regular updates will be provided to the public as information becomes available.

Old Highway 62 Realignment Project - August 19 Update

PLEASE NOTE: As part of the Realignment of Old Highway 62 Project, Road Crews have completed Road Paving on Old Highway 62 from Boulter Road to Highway 62.

 

Road shoulder work is expected to be done during the fall season.

Revitalization of Mink Lake Road - July 17 Update

PLEASE NOTE: Road Paving on Mink Lake Road, part of the Capital Construction Project, is expected to be complete by end of day on: July 18th, 2025
