DECLARATION OF SIGNIFICANT WEATHER EVENT

I, Denver Mayhew, Operations Manager, declare a Significant Weather Event in accordance with Ontario Regulation 239/02 Minimum Maintenance Standards for Municipal Highways.

Declaration Start Date: March 28, 2025                Time: 3:30p.m.

Reasons for Declaration of Event:

Environment Canada has issued an alert for Central Ontario in respect to a Freezing Rain Warning commencing on Friday, March 28, 2025, into Sunday, March 30, 2025, with widespread amounts of Freezing Rain & Ice Pellets expected.

Because of this, the Municipality of Hastings Highlands is declaring a Significant Weather Event under which the Municipality will be exempt from the Provincial service levels for winter maintenance timelines.

It may take longer than usual to clear and maintain Municipal roads, and sidewalks.

Ontario Regulation 239/02 defines a Significant Weather Event as an approaching or occurring weather hazard with the potential to pose a significant danger to users of the highways within a municipality.

The Municipality needs to declare a Significant Weather Event in ADVANCE of the storm as outlined in O. Reg. 239/02 in the Minimum Maintenance Standards for Municipal Highways.

The Municipality of Hastings Highlands encourages all residents on the roads and sidewalks to be cautious and avoid unnecessary travel for the duration of the Significant Weather Event.

The declaration will be cancelled as soon as roadways are deemed safe.
