REQUEST FOR INTEREST - APS HEARING OFFICER OPPORTUNITY
The Municipality of Hastings Highlands is currently seeking a person to act as a Hearing Officer for our Administrative Penalty Systems.
The role of the Hearing Officer is to consider and make decisions regarding appeals received from a person who has been served with an Administrative Penalty Notice.
In this capacity, the duties of a Hearing Officer include:
• Conduct hearings in accordance with the Statutory Powers Procedure Act, ensuring equal access, fair treatment and due process for all parties
• Make final and binding decisions, which are independent and free from outside influence, on whether to confirm, vary or cancel administrative penalty amounts and/or time to pay administrative penalties in accordance with the APS Bylaw
Applicants shall be 18 years of age and a Canadian Citizen.
Ideally the Hearing Officer will:
- have knowledge of and experience in administrative law; and
- have good communications and interpersonal skills
-be impartial, have sound judgement, tact, fairness, and decorum when fulfilling responsibilities
The Hearing Officer will be required to be available at least one (1) day in each quarter for any Hearing requests. Meetings could be set up in person or could be conducted over video conference. Compensation will be offered for each hearing.
