Hastings Highlands has two Public Schools (JK-6): Maynooth Public School and Birds Creek Public School. Both schools host After School Care programs Monday – Friday provided by North Hastings Children’s Services.
Birds Creek Public School offers a spacious library, full-size gymnasium, and well-equipped playground.
Maynooth Public School is home to the Algonquin Nation’s Inodewiziwin Child and Family Center, https://www.nhcs.ca/algonquin-inodewiziwin/ achieved OPHEA Healthy Schools Silver last year, worked with Harvest the North in 2017 to create community gardens with the students and has access to Hastings Highlands’ library and gym facilities.
Bus service is provided for children attending these schools and is also provided for those attending Our Lady of Mercy Catholic School (JK-8), North Hastings High School (7-12) and York River Public School (JK-6) where students in grades 5 and 6 may choose to enroll in the extended French program.
For adults wishing to pursue post-secondary education in a rural environment they may want to peruse the course calendars for Haliburton School of Art and Design (Fleming College) and Loyalist College. These higher learning institutions offer a range of certificate and diploma programs in media, arts, design, trade skills, culinary management, justice studies and more.
